A frequent patient in the Laboratory at Passavant Area Hospital is thankful for Mindy Smith, Laboratory, and her skills at drawing blood.

“Mindy makes me feel like family,” said the patient who nominated her for the Colleague of the Month award. “She provides good treatment, is skillful with blood draws and speaks to me with confidence.”

Smith has been a phlebotomist for nearly 19 years. She draws blood on the inpatient units, Emergency Department and in the Laboratory.

“I know I am helping patients by drawing their blood,” said Smith. “I aim to stick them with little or no pain and then thank them for choosing Passavant for their care.”

Smith and her husband, Todd, reside in Waverly. They are the parents of three children and seven grandchildren. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, playing with her dogs and taking the grandchildren on boating trips. 

The Colleague of the Month at Passavant receives eight hours off with pay, a special plaque and pin, a close parking space for one month in the physicians’ parking garage and a decorated cake.
