Memorial Rehab Services to Host Fishing Clinic for People with Disabilities

5/12/2014

A fishing clinic for people who have experienced a major medical or traumatic physical change—such as from an accident, brain injury or stroke—will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. Friday, June 6.

The free clinic will take place at Southwind Park in Springfield and is sponsored by Memorial Rehab Services.

Participants should bring their own fishing poles. Memorial Rehab Services has extra equipment available if needed. Participants will be able to try out different types of adaptive equipment. A fishing license is not required. Preregistration is recommended.

“Our goal is to help people return to a previous leisure interest that promotes overall wellness,” said Lisa Cline, recreational therapist for Memorial Rehab Services. “People find they are once again able to enjoy something they loved to do—just in a different way.”
