Christian County High School Grads Can Apply for Nursing Scholarship

2/10/2022

Christian County high school graduates continuing their education in nursing can apply for a scholarship awarded through the Taylorville Memorial Foundation.

The Carolyn M. Butterfield Trust Nursing Scholarship is awarded to a student who has graduated from a Christian County high school and is enrolled in a two- or four-year college or university. Applicants must be in or have completed their first year in a nursing program.

The deadline to apply is April 1. The application is available on the foundation’s website at Memorial.Health/tmf.

As a charter member of the St. Vincent Memorial Hospital (now Taylorville Memorial) Foundation, Carolyn Butterfield understood the importance of a rural hospital, according to Raedena Ryan, executive director of the Taylorville Memorial Foundation.

Through her trust, Butterfield provided an endowment funding annual scholarships. It was her wish to financially assist Christian County students pursuing a career in health care, especially in the field of nursing.

“Her hope was to help reverse the shortage of these professionals in our service area,” Ryan said.

The Taylorville Memorial Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organized in 1995. The foundation accepts financial donations to help further the mission of Taylorville Memorial Hospital to improve lives and build stronger communities through better health.
