Memorial Physician Services Clinics Provide CDL Exams

6/9/2014

Five Memorial Physician Services locations have medical professionals certified to provide exams for people seeking a commercial driver’s license through the State of Illinois.

New federal guidelines that went into effect on May 21 require anyone who operates a commercial motor vehicle to receive a physical from a medical professional who’s certified by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

The five locations providing this service are the Memorial Physician Services offices in Jacksonville, Lincoln and Petersburg as well as two Springfield locations: Memorial Physician Services-Capitol Healthcare and Memorial Physician Services-North Dirksen.

“Our physicians and nurse practitioners who have been certified to perform these exams have received comprehensive training to evaluate cardiovascular disease, respiratory and muscular functions, vision and hearing,” said Travis Dowell, vice president of Memorial Health System.

Patients should bring a complete list of medications with dosages, prescription glasses or contacts and their medical history, especially for cardiac and sleep apnea, to their exams. The exams take about one hour.
