Jacksonville Memorial Hospital to Provide Free Mammograms

The screenings will be offered from 3 to 5 p.m. on each Monday in October at the nonprofit hospital, 1600 W. Walnut Ave.

Appointments are required; no walk-ins are available. To schedule an appointment, call 217-479-5696.

A physician’s order is required. If patients do not have a doctor, the hospital will provide a physician’s order. The Mia Ware Foundation provides the funding for Mammogram Mondays at Jacksonville Memorial Hospital.

Educational materials, including information on general breast health and how to perform breast self-exams, will be available.

The National Cancer Institute recommends that all women age 40 or older have screening mammograms annually. Breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States.

Free mammograms will be offered at all five Memorial Health hospitals in Decatur, Jacksonville, Lincoln, Springfield and Taylorville throughout October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
