Taylorville Memorial Foundation Announces 2023 Scholarship Opportunities

1/27/2023

The three scholarship opportunities include:

  • The Carolyn M. Butterfield Trust Nursing Scholarship is awarded to a student who has graduated from a Christian County high school and is enrolled in a two- or four-year college or university. Applicants must be in or have completed their first year in a nursing program. The deadline to submit an application packet is June 1.

“As a charter member of the St. Vincent Memorial Hospital Foundation (now Taylorville Memorial Foundation), Carolyn Butterfield understood the importance of a rural hospital,” said Raedena Ryan, executive director of the Taylorville Memorial Foundation. “It was her wish to financially assist Christian County students pursuing a career in healthcare, especially in the field of nursing.”

  • The John H. Butterfield Agriscience and Nutrition Scholarship is awarded to a student who has graduated from a central Illinois high school, with priority given to a Christian County resident. The applicant should have completed the first year in an agriscience or food nutrition program at a two- or four-year college or university. The deadline to submit an application packet is June 1.

“The Butterfield family established this scholarship to honor their father’s dedication to agriculture. Agriculture remains one of the economic engines in our community and also drives good health,” said Ryan. “Awarding this scholarship to a young person preparing for a career in agriculture or nutrition honors John’s interest in education.”

  • The Dr. George Ferry Memorial Scholarship is awarded each spring to two Taylorville High School graduates who plan to pursue a health care career. The late George Ferry contributed a lifetime of service, dedication and commitment to his family, his practice, his community and Taylorville Memorial Hospital, said Ryan. The deadline to submit an application packet is April 1.

“Dr. Ferry’s legacy lives on as this scholarship continues to be a positive support for area students pursuing a health care career,” said Ryan.
