Registered nurse Marianne Scannura was named Memorial Medical Center’s 2016 Employee of the Year.
The employee of the year is selected from 11 individuals who were named employee of the month from January through November of each year.
Scannura was named the August Employee of the Month for her willingness to always go the extra mile for her patients and colleagues. She and the other employees of the month were recognized recently at Memorial's annual Festival of Trees.
“Marianne exemplifies our Memorial mission. She provides compassionate care and makes a positive impression on our patients and employees,” said Ed Curtis, president and CEO of Memorial Health System.
Scannura has worked at Memorial since 1986. She currently serves as a clinical nurse in Cardiopulmonary Rehabilitation.
She educates patients about prevention and treatment of coronary artery disease, cares for perioperative and cardiopulmonary patients and facilitates early ambulation of medical and surgical patients.
She and her husband, Louis, live in Springfield and have four children: Emily Ritzer and Ryan, Daniel and Christopher Scannura.
“The most rewarding part of what I do is when a patient or family tells me they understand their disease process, and they are hopeful and encouraged to make positive changes in their life and the lives of their family members,” Scannura said.
