The Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation is proud to announce that Mallory Brotherton and Grace Markwell, both 2017 graduates of Taylorville High School, have been awarded the 2017 Dr. George Ferry Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is administered annually through the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Mallory Brotherton, daughter of Michael and Beth Brotherton, has been accepted to the University of Illinois Urbana/Champaign where she will study Biology (Pre-Medicine). She hopes to eventually specialize in Obstetrics/Gynecology and to use the skills she learns to give back either through medical mission trips or volunteering within the community. A member of the National Honor Society and an Illinois State Scholar, Brotherton ranked 7th in her graduating class. In addition to her academic achievements, Brotherton was involved in athletics and various other extracurricular activities within the school and community.
Grace Markwell, daughter of Steve and Beth Markwell, will be studying Biology (Pre-Medicine) at Bradley University. While she has not yet selected a specialty, Markwell plans to return to Taylorville to practice medicine to help the people of this community who have supported her all her life. Ranked 1st in her graduating class, Markwell is a member of the National Honor Society and has served as Student Council Treasurer. She has given much of her spare time volunteering in the community as well as being involved in extracurricular activities and athletics at school.
The Dr. George Ferry Memorial Scholarships are proudly awarded annually by the Ferry family, Mid Illinois Dental Associates, Ltd and Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation. "It is an absolute privilege to be able to award these scholarships to Mallory and Grace," says Raedena Ryan, executive director of the Taylorville Memorial Hospital Foundation. "Both young ladies have educational interests and career aspirations that align with the hospital’s mission to improve the health of the people and communities we serve which is something that Dr. Ferry cared so much about."
The late Dr. George Ferry contributed a lifetime of service, dedication and commitment to his family, his practice, his community and Taylorville Memorial Hospital. Both Brotherton and Markwell were presented with the scholarships during the Taylorville High School Senior Awards Night on May 10 and will be honorary guests at the TMH Foundation’s Signature Event on December 2, 2017.
