Jacksonville Mayor Andy Ezard visited Passavant Area Hospital last week with a proclamation honoring local athletic trainers during the March celebration of National Athletic Trainers Month. Passavant athletic trainers include Monica Huffman, PT, ATC; Larissa Sorrells, PT, DPT, ATC; Kris Schwiderski, ATC; and Trevor Huffman, MS, PT, SCS, ATC, director of Rehabilitation Services. They were joined by athletic trainers from MacMurray College Bryan Langan, ATC, and Jessica Lewis, ATC. Athletic trainers from Illinois College were not available for the presentation but include Terry Geirnaeirt, MS, ATC; Sarah Phillips, ATC; and Shawn Woods, MS, ATC.

Athletic trainers specialize in the prevention, assessment, treatment and rehabilitation of sports injuries and illnesses. Passavant athletic trainers are members of Team Rehab, an outreach sports rehabilitation and physical therapy service for high school athletes. In addition, Team Rehab provides on-site athletic trainers for weekly school visits, practices and game coverage.
