Taylorville Memorial Hospital was proud to recognize the invaluable service of its volunteers during National Volunteer Week April 15-21. TMH honored volunteers who had reached service hour milestones during the annual volunteer appreciation luncheon held in the Janice Hopper Auditorium on Thursday, April 19.
In 2017, TMH volunteers gave a remarkable 17,244 hours of service to help TMH fulfill its healthcare mission. Volunteers earn service hours in a variety of ways. The TMH Auxiliary volunteers host many community events such as the Central Illinois Community Blood Center blood drives, Men Who Cook, the Heart and Sole 5K, TMH FORE! Golf Outing, Holiday Extravaganza and manage the gift shop located on the first floor of the hospital. Additionally, the Auxiliary quilters earn hours through their quilting craft.
Traditional in-house volunteers welcome visitors with a smile at the front door, escort patients and guests throughout the hospital, show care and concern to surgery patients and families and aid hospital employees in a variety of ways including laboratory runs and delivering in-house mail.
“National Volunteer Week gives us a chance to recognize and thank the many volunteers at TMH for the hard work they do,” said TMH volunteer coordinator Debbie Johnson. “We appreciate the service they provide in helping make a difference in our community.”
The volunteer program at TMH has been established for many years but it is ever evolving with new volunteer roles to expand the volunteer footprint and great patient experience.
If you are interested in making a positive difference in the lives of patients and their families through volunteer work, please contact volunteer coordinator Debbie Johnson at 824-1677 or apply online at TaylorvilleMemorial.org.
