Since 1970, Springfield Memorial Hospital has been a teaching hospital affiliated with Southern Illinois University School of Medicine for the purpose of providing clinical training for residents.

Designated by The Joint Commission as a Comprehensive Stroke Center, SMH provides Memorial Heart and Vascular Services, Memorial Rehab Services, Emergency Services, Family Maternity, Regional Cancer Center, Regional Burn Center, Orthopedic Services, Memorial Behavioral Services and Memorial Transplant Services for area patients.

SMH has earned four consecutive Magnet® designations from the American Nurses Credentialing Center for nursing excellence — an accomplishment so prestigious that only 2% of hospitals in the country have done it.  SMH is regionally ranked as a best hospital and is rated as high performing in multiple procedures and conditions by U.S. News & World Report.

SMH is part of Memorial Health, a community-based, non-profit organization that delivers high-quality, patient-centered care in support of our mission to improve the health of the people and communities we serve.
